Silver Cup Feature - Something Gold Photography

Yesterday we were thrilled to shared a Dinner for Two inspired by Silver Cup artist Emily of Something Gold Photography. We are so overwhelmed to have incredibly talented artists like Emily. Her heart is so in line with the mission of Cottage Hill, and we are excited to share a little interview with you!

Tell us about your family.

My husband and I got married almost two years ago and the word family took on a whole new meaning the day we became one. Just us two and our little pup. This unit, the home we create together, and love we share is what family is to me.

How is Something Gold Photography unique? What drives your art?

My art is driven by luminous light, real stories, nature, places I've traveled, and natural beauty. I thrive and get inspiration from my client's unique stories mixed with their natural beauty. I try to always bring elements to my photography that aid the story and life of the people we are photographing, while capturing authentic moments.

What do you want your clients to take away from having you as their photographer?

I want them to takeaway the importance of being in the moment, focusing on their spouse and loved ones, as I photograph the moments for them to have forever. I want them to feel comfortable, calm and confident knowing all the special moments will be authentically captured.

What are you afraid of?

Failure. A wise person once told me to let this fear remind me how amazing it is to be doing something worth so much. I love this and try to let this fear drive me to be better and do better all the time. I don't think the fear will ever go away, but how we respond to it can change us tremendously.

What were you doing the last time you looked up at the clock and realized you had completely lost track of time?

I was on an evening walk with my husband and puppy, Lucy. We take her on a walk most evenings, but some nights we end our walk by sitting in this big open soccer field.

What are you most interested in learning how to do right now?

Right now, I am learning about film. I have been incorporating it into my work, but I am still learning so much about the entire process. I am also learning to be more proactive when it comes to taking photographs outside of sessions and weddings. I am trying to always have my camera with me so I can capture the beauty in my everyday life, while also pushing myself to try lots of different lighting situations. You can never stop experimenting with photography, and I love this.

What do you love most about your job?

I love my clients. I love the responsibility I have to serve them and capture these moments for them. I also love my job because I get to spend time with my clients for more than just a session, but for as long as a year sometimes. I love getting to know them, what is important to them, and then reflecting this in the images I capture for them.
